SEA and WATER : short sea and waterways solutions

who we are

The water-freight industry is not well understood and is largely under-promoted.  This means that potential customers and policymakers are often unaware of the water option and its vital role in the logistics chain.

Sea and Water was established in 2003 to address this challenge.  Its aim is to raise the profile of water to transform it into the freight transport mode of choice and to highlight what Britain's 2,000 miles of inland waterways, rivers and estuaries and 1,072 miles of coastline have to offer to benefit business, the environment and society.

Sea and Water is supported financially by the Department for Transport and the water-freight industry through membership subscriptions and sponsorship.

what we do

Sea and Water promotes water as a commercially and environmentally sustainable mode of transport for freight in the United Kingdom. Its primary objective is to achieve modal shift and move freight off the roads and onto water.
